Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) & Book and Claim
Trading of SAF will provide Two accomplishments under the Book & Claim.
SAF Book & Claim system is a chain-of-custody accounting model that decouples the physical fuel molecules from their environmental attributes. Key features include decoupling physical and environmental attributes, digital registries to prevent double counting, and independent third-party verification.
How the System Works:
BOOK:
CLAIM:
A company or airline purchases a verified volume of SAF (issued as digital certificates or Book & Claim Units) via a registry like the RSB Registry managed by Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials.
State that retirement supports a claim only when eligibility, documentation, registry, accounting and assurance requirements are met.
Register: The actual physical SAF is delivered locally into airport infrastructure near the production site, reducing transport emissions and logistical hurdles while providing a clear market demand signal.

Binding EU SAF blend mandate, 2025 to 2050
Every percentage point of mandated blend is a step change in certificate volume. The EU calendar is legally binding, and suppliers who fall short face fines of at least twice the price gap between SAF and fossil jet fuel.
Projected demand of SAF
The International Air Transport Association estimates that aviation would require about 500 million metric tonnes each year by 2050 under its net-zero pathway. [International Air Transport Association, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, 2026]
